I don't think World Wildlife Foundation debates School Class-Size as an issue related to biodiversity.

I don't think Planned Parenthood argues the discipline issues of your classroom, bus or hall in their meetings.

Nor do I think NEA or its affiliates/sub-committees should spend much time debating the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell," Darfur's genocide, or "illegal immigrants" when these have no direct bearing on the quality of work for professional educators.

This is not to say that these are not worthy topics of discussion, just that when our educators and support staff are sliding toward impoverishment and losing the middle class, we cannot afford to be putting those issues before those that DIRECTLY impact local school educators.

This Group was started to focus Educators' attention through their deliberative efforts in their Professional Associations on the matters that directly impact the quality of work in the classroom, school, school bus, and support facilities of their members.

We believe that investment first in these under-appreciated/under-respected public and professional service providers will achieve the greatest "Return on Investment" of resources with respect to providing high quality, professional grade education for the public.

We believe that there are many worthy causes in which we educators are heavily involved, but that these are NOT the primary business of our Professional Associations. We believe that there are many dedicated appropriate organizations better suited to deliberating over these secondary issues.

It is the goal of this discussion group to provide a vehicle for communication that would result in ideas and strategies for affecting change in whatever committees and sub-committees in which we participate - WE must say no to frivolous or non-essential legislation and debate.

We are not an official group of the NEA/FEA.

We don't represent them.

But we are members of these organizations and we are delegates voted by many thousands of other members.

And they expect results from the money being spent.

It is our job to make this happen.

So, the question before you is "how can we best focus our combined energies and resources in delegation/conference and bring them to

bear on the true educational issues?"

I invite you to join a discussion group aimed at making this happen at each level of the process.
